Ki & Ka – A Topsy Turvy thinking by Director

Ki & Ka – Hindi Feature film, yet another beautiful movie from Balki. Topsy-Turvy is the best word to describe one of the most talented directors of Indian Cinema. Different Concept, unique approach, perfect casting, soothing music, eye-catching visuals, suitable dialogs and an equalent sprinkling of humor and emotion all over the movie. If you can see all these in a single movie, then it is Dir. Balki’s creation.

Ki & Ka is a cleverly chosen sensitive subject. The plot is all about the topsy-turvy thinking of the relationship ( so-called traditional / conventional practice ). The way he handled the script was amazing. Kareena Kapor Khan & Arjun Kapoor did their best for this movie. Swaroop Sampat(Kareena’s mom) role was adorable. Though this movie has got mixed reviews both negative and neutral, I felt that Balki handled it very well by not making it as more emotional or more of an advice or preaching kind of movie. He touched most sensitive parts of the movie very lightly, as he wanted to get connected to the younger generation. He just wanted to break the perceptions  like Women has to do all the house chores and homemaking and Men have to earn and has the responsibility to protect the family. If handling and making a home is an art, then why its totally dependent on Women ?

Few other things I like in this movie are romance between Ki & Ka, Ka & Ki’s Mom relationship, Ki’s house railway and train interior ( though it looked dramatic or set kind of thing ), visuals & Ilayaraja’s background score.

Apart from the critics and reviews about this movie, I feel all men and women have to watch this movie once and this will surely bring a different perception of seeing their living style. I liked this movie very much and I will recommend it to my friends to watch it once 🙂

Ki-and-Ka-Movie-Trailer-Will-Be-Launched-In-Few-Hours

Page out of the life of a Gangster…!

“What is Dharma ?”
“Anything which is the need of the hour is Dharma”

With this quote of Chanakya, the movie starts. Only one and best of its kind in Tamil Cinema. “Aaranya Kandam” – Aranya Kanda / Jungle chapter as mentioned in the Ramayana ( EPIC). Its a story ( a day) revolving around the gangsters lives. Aaranya Kaandam was not a biography or history of a gangster but “a page out of the life of a gangster”. Movie revolves around a day in a set of gangsters. Before writing something I salute director “Thyagarajan Kumararaja”. Everyone says its his first movie. But I swear you will not believe it after watching the movie.

We cannot call it as a complete black movie, this is not a movie about the problems of gangsters, this not a movie about showing or portraying the dark or ugly side of gangsters. This is not the movie of big suspense’s and thrilling scenes…but every one will have a curiosity of wat is next.  Just a movie revolves around a day of gangsters and how they handle it.

Well defined characters , spontaneous and right delivery of dialogues, proper synchronization of cinematography, BG music attached with the story lines ( one cannot imagine this movie without YUVAN’s BGM ), crystal clear acting of all the characters, well matured and cultured editing, justified and unexpected climax…moreover a legendary screenplay..masterpiece direction skills…wat else to say…SIMPLY SUPERB.  Hats off to SPB Charan & team.

Five gems of this move, Jackie Shroff , Ravi krishna, Sampath Raj, Somasundaram, master vasanth. As always “Koothu patarai” has given another excellent actor “somasundaram”.  Sampath and Jackie are the best selection for this movie. Special notes on Somasundaram and kodukapilli (master vasanth). The BGM was another biggest plus to the movie. Yuvan just carries the movie in his shoulders with his extraordinary BGM. Yuvan has done his best whenever he is trusted. Really he deserves a big award this year. Still I can hear the BGM in the chasing scenes…!

Really proud to see these kind of movie in Tamil Industry. As already this movie got a international recognition and award…and this movie deserves more. A good and excellent for movie lovers and those who loves Cinema more than an entertainment. An Indian movie with a international quality in terms of cinema. Happy watching this movie…and proud too.

Just wondering …with more than 52 cuts from the Censor board..this movie still survives.   Its kind of movie u will never get irritated about gangsters and their activities….you just get involved and live the day with them.Tats the skill….TRUE SKILL of a director. The movie for Adults ends with the same note,

“What is Dharma ?”
“Anything which is the need of the hour is Dharma”

Really True one. Need of the hour is Dharma. Again thanks to SPB Charan & Kumararaja.

ps:As always perception varies from one to another…. this post just my (re)view about the tamil movie “Aaranya Kandam” and no intentions to hurt anyone or criticize.

Its not about the so called culture and tradition…!

Got to watch the  Tamil movie – Vamsam in theater few days back. As  I was much impressed with the director Pandiraj’s previous movie “pasanga”, my expectations was lil bit high. And the review in Ananda vikadan – a Tamil weekly magazine also added more expectations into me.  While watching the movie I was lil bit disappointed with a usual village subject with normal stuffs. But the efforts were good and cleanly displayed. The second half of the movie is good, especially Jayaprakash and Kishore’s performance were extraordinary.

But I feel, director Pandiraj can do much more than this.I feel these kind of subjects need a good music.  But this movie failed to impress with the music. But one thing I hate with this move , not only with this movie and with all other movies is when it was about a particular caste system. Told positive or negative, but it creates impact on common people. Cinema is not only a entertainment media for most ppl, it travels beyond that. It gets into many lives and hearts an a  sensitive media too.

This generation doesn’t need the things related to caste system and the stories related to that. It will create a impact on this generation too. We don’t want to see a caste based division and discrimination again with our generation. And we need our next generation without caste system existence. I’m aware that these caste and subdivision are created with some good reason, but all the ex-generation gentlemen spoiled those values and now it is carried with different note and intention. And with the rapidly changing in the attitude of the living style , these things doesn’t mean much. So better to avoid to deal it detail in the movies.

Coming to this film Vamsam, the movie deals with a south region caste and portrayed the so called tradition and culture. The worst part is , few of my friends being a good critic , they like this movie and praised this movie blindly with no reason. I wondered why it was…then while discussing  to them in detail, I  came to know that they are from the same caste and region and they feel proud about this. I’m not finding a fault in them. Because movies is not only a entertainment , it also creates impacts. What we say culture and tradition in movies are not actually. Things were created for good cause and later it has been used for different cause.

Lets create a new caste & religion  free world for our next modern generation. Wish every director should have some social responsibility.

ps: about the movie is afterall my views and not review. Perception varies…just expressed my views.

Report on 12th std exam results – TN 2009

12th results has been announced last week .  The pass percentage has been bit decreased when compared to last year and the students from rural tamil nadu glitter this year. Students from Chennai faced a little set back this year. Unlike last year the govt schools in Chennai  lack in marks and pass percentage when compared to the govt  schools out of Chennai.

The Chennai corporation schools are not upto the mark this time. Few schools have recorded worst pass percentage. Happy news is few of the most backward districts of tamilnadu has shown a wonderful performance.

Please find the link for the detailed and reader friendly report on the 12th standard results 2009. The report talks about the govt school progress, pass percentage, top scorers district wise and in whole. Sorry for not able to cover all the districts. All the data’s in the report were collected from the news papers like Dinamalar, dinathanthi, thinamani, thinakaran, thina chudar, thamiz oosai, thamiz news, malai murasu, times of India, The Hindu, Indian express, malai malar, thina sudar.

Report : 12th std exam 2009 results review – district wise

Some of the interesting facts ,

  • For 24th consecutive year  virudunagar dt has topped the list in pass percentage.
  • None of the Govt/corp schools in Chennai has secured 100 percent pass percentage.
  • Around 5 schools has recorded less than 50% pass percentage.
  • DAV schools of Chennai take the credits of the TOP marks of Tamil nadu (non tamil as first language) 1190,1188,1186.
  • Top 10 students (three ranks) were from outside Chennai schools.

These facts apart, lets come to the review of the results. I’m not here just to play a blame game on the govt schools standards by comparing with the private schools. And for time being we cannot compare these two. Because for comparing  we should have at least few facts as competing.

The biggest organization with large infrastructures , highest man power , surplus money, lots of super brains, with more students strength and technology in hands. I mean govt as the organization. What else one need to run a school successfully. Why govt schools fail to make a mark ? They can say 1000 reasons for all these but how long we are gonna tell reasons ? When we are gonna work on solving this ?

I’m not blaming this particular govt..but all the past govts. All these years I have never  heard of a productive plans on improving quality in education of govt schools. No political party speaks about these area. No manifesto has given a clear promise in education department. I accept that infrastructure wise the govt schools are improved a lot. Computers reached almost all the schools. But what is the use in it..? Without having the efficient teachers and  with no proper monitoring  all these are waste of money.

Question the schools and staffs for the worst results ? Suspend the teachers who shown some poor performance without a valid reason. Provide performance based incentives to the teachers. Re validate the qualification of a teacher to enter the schools. Do more screening for selecting a teacher.  Give promotions only based on the performance and not only with the experience and say no to quota based postings. Please remove the reservation atleast for this department. The education minister should be well educated. Undertake all the management govt schools from the remote villages. Provide school busses/vans for students transportation. Set a standard for teachers skills and monitor for two years and if not met provide them VRS and appoint new teachers with high skills. Close almost all the B’Ed colleges started in the recent years and few colleges are enough to produce highly skilled teachers. Do not recognize D’Ed (diplomain teacher training).

Still  more things to consider. I just wanted to make a note that , Education department is the one to be given top most priority which in turn give lots of improvement in India. Reconsructing the teachers ability will bring more changes initially and then we can consider on other things of education department.

Still I dream for the day that no NGO’s are working for govt schools to provide quality in education and infrastructure. Else leave it to the NGO’s for few years and the young minds will bring a change for sure. And finally , government schools are not upto the mark and there is no reason to hide this.

Every death gives a birth…!

MyViews – Sarvam – Tamil Movie

Got to watch this movie on its first day of release(15th may 09). I had some good expectations after seeing the trailer of the movie few months back. I Was most impressed by the camera and background score.

It’s a different try from vishnuvardan (director) but the same old story of Tamil movies. This movie would have been good if some of the cinematic scenes were avoided. Overall vishnu and arya had tried different things with our time and money. And arya tried acting in this move and he succeeded a bit…but a long way to go…!

Sarvam - Worth watching for camera and BG

Sarvam - Worth watching for camera and BG

But worth watching for the cinematography by Nirawshah and BG music by yuvan. The locations chosen and the way Nirav handled the colors and scenes are awesome. He makes our eyes pleasant in all the scenes. Yuvan simply touching hearts with his bg music.Few of the songs were also good. And for sometime screenplay is also good.

Bit of concentration on the first half to make it faster would have helped the movie to reach better and director totally wasted J.D chakravarthy. I’m sure this movie not gonna reach the  B and C theaters. Better luck next time vishnu.

At last I felt hard to catgorize this movie. It may be a thriller  , pshyco , love and comedy(non laugh) movie.

Whatever happens ….Life has to GO on …!

My view
Vaaranam Aayeram, best of the autobiographic kind of movie ever taken in Tamil. It’s a complete autobiography of a young man who got inspired by his father.Hats off to Surya for his marvelous performance. He was more then we expected. A film full of Surya and one should have 1000 eyes to watch him in all the frames of the movie.Surya was never displayed this much handsome.Really we should have 1000 eyes to watch him.

As guessed this movie has the traces of Tom hank’s Forrest Gump, not the whole story but the story line was inspired from Forrest Gump and style of story narration was also resembles the same. The movie just portrays the best father we have ever seen. Everyone will love to have a father like him and every old couple will really realize , how they miss their life by not expressing to each other. The old couples love and intimacy was really beautiful and well shown. The performance of father surya (Krishnan) was mind blowing. The body language, style, tone etc., etc., every thing was 100% perfect with surya.Surya along with the simran, really good to watch them as a couple.Simram made some remarkable performance , will be liked by everyone.

The young surya …was really amazing and you will wonder at his commitment for this movie. He was an energy pack.In some places you can’t believe your eyes.He shows difference in all the stages of the character. He comes as 12th student, first year student, final year student,25 year old guy,30 year old, commando,as a father of 5 year old etc., Everywhere he fits with the character and changed his complete physic.Surya’s six pack was amazing and he looks more handsome in those scenes.

When coming to romance , its simply awesome. Sameera reddy looks pretty good and we can feel the freshness in the love. The one hour with complete love scenes will take you to a different world.Sure every one will miss their loved ones while watching this. The feel of love, the bliss in the love, the real pain of love and every thing about love was displayed perfectly. When it comes to divya , its a different kind of display and makes us pretty comfortable. We can see sort of kakka kakka movie’s love.Divya looks more beautiful in this movie.

When it comes to music, the background music adds value to the movie. We can hear some sort of music everywhere in the movie.Nenjukul,Anal meale,Adiye kolluthe, yethi yethi are well picturised. Expecially ‘nenjukul peidhidum’ and ‘adiye kolluthe’ songs wins our hearts. Extraordinary dance by surya. I was mostly disappointed with the Mundinam song, the song was pictured in a different way and looks good, but for this song the expectation was more and I expected more romance in it.I was totally disappointed with this song.Hats off to thamarai for her excellent lyrics.

All over the movie we can see the Gautam’s brilliance and non masala scenes. Apart for few things , Gautam‘s job was excellent.Again he proved his ability in this movie and his way of story telling resembles English movies. And as usual lots of English dialogs in this movie.

A bit lengthy movie which runs around 3 hours.Apart from the first 20 and last 20 minutes, the move would have been a extraordinary one. Since the movie starts with sadness and ends with sadness, you may sulk when coming out of the theater. This movie is not surely for the guys who hates emotional scenes. This has lots of emotional scenes, which will create some impact with every one. We can see crazy love, romantic love, parents love n respect, lots of positive notes and few negatives too.I’m sure this movie won’t be a big hit , but its a life time movie for Surya and displays the another face of Indian cinema.Lots of things to learn and lots of things to inspire.

Since the movie revolves around the script , we can feel a slowness in the movie. I cannot say this was the best movie to Gautam, he just got to say some thing and he did it on the track. If ones likes Surya, then Vaaranam Aayeram would be a treat for them. Go with less expectations , sure u will enjoy the movie.

Totally a good movie to watch. As a whole , this movie shows and says “Whatever Happens …Life has to go on …! “.
Had good time watching this movie. It’s all just about my perception and my view (not review)on this movie and has no intention to hurt any individual.
